Aéropostale 2017, part 4

Saint Louis was the turning point of Rally Aéropostale 2017. From here we headed back to the North. Immediately after take off at Saint Louis we crossed Senegal River which forms the border between Senegal and Mauritania. Then we continued about 500 miles alongside the coast of Mauritania and Western Sahara. The beaches below us were wonderful and virtually deserted. The problem is that there is no way to get to them. No roads, no hotels, no restaurants, nothing. On the whole coast of Mauritania we only saw two or three small fishing villages. Not even the capital of Nouakchott located some 20 miles off the coast, seemed to offer any tourist infrastructure.

After some 6 hours in the air we landed and overnighted again at Dakhla. From Dakhla we flew alongside the coast of Western Sahara and Morocco to the airport of Tan Tan. On the way we managed to make a low pass over the airstrip of Cap Juby.  During our transfer from the airport of Dakhla to our desert hotel the police stopped us and imprisoned our driver. After about an hour of waiting another driver showed up but he did not know the road to the hotel hidden in the desert mountains. We therefore arrived to our rooms only sometime before midnight.

Po asi šesti hodinách letu jsme přistáli a přenocovali opět v Dakhle a odsud pak pokračovali k severu podél skalnatého pobřeží Sahary. Cestou jsme ještě udělali nízký průlet nad dráhou Cap Juby a zamířili na letiště Tan Tan.

Tam jsme prožili zajímavý večer, protože našeho řidiče zatkla cestou policie a náhradní, který se asi za hodinu odkudsi vynořil, neznal cestu do pouštního hotelu, kde jsme měli přespat. Do pokojů jsme se proto dostali až někdy k půlnoci.
