Norway, Sandnessjoen - Stokka ENST - Landing

Sandnessjoen Airport (ENST) -  landing

The main issue of flying in Norway is the weather – it changes very quickly and in principle there is not much of good flying weather. During my flight from Narvik to the South I had the opportunity to make my first video of a pristine white glacier – Svartisen. Then a wall of approaching clouds made me decide to land as quickly as possible. Closest was Stokka airport so I decided to land there.

The timing was perfect which is also visible on the video. My touchdown took place still in dry weather but I vacated the runway already in heavy rain. The next night and most of the day I spent in the local hotel and at the airport tower talking with the controllers. Late in the next afternoon I decided the weather was flyable and I departed.

Some 90 minutes into the flight the weather conditions deteriorated again and instead of continuing to Trondheim I had to land at Namsos airport where I stayed for the next two nights. The fog was so thick that even road traffic had to stop for a day.

The airport of Stokka je a small, pleasant transport airport with friendly ATC controllers. The airport offers Avgas. Parking is not a problem here. The airport can be used as a base for flying excursions to some very interesting parts of Norway including the nearby area of Svartisen glacier.

Take offs and landings video series    Our video series „Take offs and landings“ will bring to you every Wednesday one video taken during a take off or landing during one of Flying Revue flight expeditions. Flying Revue expedition aircraft have landed already at more than 400 airports and airfields around the globe. For many reasons, not all our take offs and landings have been videoed. However, the number of videos which we have on file is permanently growing. So the new video series „Take offs and landings“ is very well stocked. You can watch these videos free of charge either just for your interest or as part of preparations for your own flight to some of the airports shown in these series.
