Baltic Sea Islands, part 5

The fifth day of Baltic Islands expedition took me from the Estonian airport of Kardla on Himuaa island to the West and then South over the islands of Saaremaa and Ruhnu. On the way I found a beautiful water castle at Kuressaare, a crater created by a meteorite, romantic rocks, interesting airports and a pretty mother on the grass airport at the island of Ruhnu, where I briefly landed.

From the island of Ruhnu I continued over the Gulf of Riga to the capital of Latvia – Riga. There I landed at the airport of Spilve which, during the time of the Soviet Union was a very busy airport handling enormous amount of flights from within the USSR. At that time Riga was one of the most developed academic, industrial and business centres of the Soviet Union, so demand for air travel was high.

In the next part you will see that departing from Spilve can bring some unexpected adventures.
